International PhD Program in Developmental and Cellular Decisions

Obiettivo

Organism development is driven by a range of decisions at the cellular level, tightly regulated in time and space. An in depth training in both Developmental and Cellular Biology is required to unravel the mechanisms of biological processes and their malfunction in disease. The primary objective of the International PhD Program in Developmental and Cellular Decisions (InterDeC) is to train high quality PhD level researchers from across Europe at the interface of Developmental and Cellular Biology. To achieve this goal we have assembled a consortium of young Group Leaders studying different aspects of Developmental and Cellular Biology in a range of model organisms. A major strength of this program is the motivated, high calibre participants each with a strong commitment to mentoring and supervision.

The InterDeC is a multi-stage program emphasizing a broad knowledge base in Developmental and Cellular Biology and exposure to range of biological techniques. This program is comprised of a complementary mixture of theoretical and practical courses coupled with laboratory research. Top-level European students will receive highly structured scientific instruction accompanied by extensive language classes (French and English), data clubs, journal clubs, and oral and written presentation courses in addition to two student retreats and a student organised mini-symposium. The core of our program will be thesis research in a participating laboratory subsequent to two 6-week laboratory rotations, which will expose students to different research topics and techniques.

Furthermore we have included a research-driven stay in a foreign laboratory, which will foster contacts and links between European laboratories. A thesis advisory committee will closely follow student's progress throughout the program. This International PhD Program in Developmental and Cellular Decisions will train European PhDs of high competence and quality, a requisite for the European Research Area.
