Objective The objective of this study is to make an exhaustive review of existing and developing technologies and to investigate and evaluate the feasibility of a continuous cycle for steelmaking. The feasibility of that cycle will be designed to achieve high competitiveness of the European Steel Industry through energy saving coupled to environmental impact reduction. The study will be undertaken as a joint venture between ILVA/CSM, British Steel, CRM, DDS, IRSID, VDEh under the leadership of CSM. Subcontractors may be appointed. A European Direct Steel Coordination Group (EDSCG), made up of one representative of each participating organisation and the Commission, has been set up to take decisions on work to be carried out, to examine the ongoing activities, to recommend to the Commission future areas for research work on selected technological options both in steelmaking and auxiliary fields to be integrated.
