Molecular interactions during infection

Cel

The global spreading of infectious diseases has become again a major public health problem within and outside of the European region. High quality research aimed at the identification of critical components of host-pathogen interaction is one prerequisite for future development of new efficient tools for the diagnosis, prevention, therapy and control of infectious diseases. Recently, novel technologies and new methods have become available that can be used to address fundamental processes of infection. This has resulted in higher demands on the training and education of early-stage researchers who now have to master classical as well as novel disciplines to be successful in the future. MIDITRAIN is an integrated PhD program that offers highly interdisciplinary training of the early-stage researcher in all areas of infection biology.

Training is provided through
i) cutting-edge research projects focussing on molecular interactions of host and pathogen during infection;
ii) comprehensive education and intensive tutoring via special practical courses, lecture series and seminars as well as summer schools covering latest concepts, discoveries and methodological approaches within the field;
iii) complementary training designed to acquire all skills required for future independent research and leadership in academic research or industry. The training will take place at the National Centre for Biotechnology (GBF) in Braunschweig (Germany) were a unique environment of specialized research groups will provide a combination of expertise in infection biology, genomic, cell biology, biochemistry, structural biology, microbial pathogenesis and bio informatics. The institution has in addition an extensive technological infrastructure with state-of-the-art platform technologies and core facilities where the students can do laboratory rotations to obtain training and technical support for their thesis projects.
