Objectif This project will establish statistical methods for the estimation of pitting and crevice damage for stainless steels subjected to long term exposure to atmospheric and moderately aggressive conditions. This would permit the range of applications of low alloy content, i.e. 10.5-12.5 % Cr, structural stainless steels to be extended by generating corrosion data for life cycle costing. The corrosion properties of these steels will be compared with those of protected, i.e. galvanized or painted, unalloyed steels.
