Coordination of Nanostructured Catalytic Oxides Research and Development in Europe

Objective

This CA has the ambitious objective of co-ordinating the R and D activities of leading European laboratories working with redo active, multifunctional Nan structured metal oxides which are efficient as catalysts in chemical processes relevant for a sustainable chemistry and the protection of the environment. It fits perfectly in priority3.4.2.2-1 of the NMP Work programme, having also impact in its priorities 3.4.1.1-1 and 3.4.3.1-2 and, to lower extent, also in Thematic Priority 6.1 "Sustainable Energy”. The consortium comprises 42 partners (7 of them industries, including 3 Sees) from 16 EU present or candidate members, and gathers complementary expertises covering the whole spectrum of research in catalysis from basic science (theory, advanced synthesis and instrumental techniques, reaction mechanisms studies) to practical application (reactor design, process control, catalyst lifetime studies) in a multidisciplinary and well-balanced effort. Within a proposed 27 months activity, a structure for research coordination will be promoted through personnel mobility, dedicated workshops, shared access to instrumentation, set-up of electronic tools for information sharing and collaborative work, common management of intellectual property issues and other integration activities. Coordinated research work will cover advanced catalyst preparation, deeper understanding of their properties, discovery of new catalysts and applications and reaction engineering. Knowledge dissemination and spread of good practice will result from conference organisation, training activities, exchange of personnel and actions for incrementing societal awareness of R and D efforts and facilitating the exploitation of research results. Besides the promotion and dissemination of knowledge, the final outcome of CONCORDE will be a Network of Excellence able to boost the competitiveness of the European chemical industry and to facilitate future European projects.
