Objectif The Grid@Asia project is designed to foster collaboration in Grid research and technologies between the European Union and two Asian countries: China and South Korea. It is implemented through mainly three steps: the identification of Chinese and South Korea key players in Grid research and technologies, the organisation of focused workshops around EU/Asia research and industrial agendas and finally by a sustainable cooperation and dissemination activities.Relying on a core of leading European Grid research institutes (CNR, FhG, INRIA and others under the umbrella of ERCIM) already involved in several European projects and networks, and with links to significant research institutes both in China (Beijing, Shanghai) and in South Korea (Seoul, Daejeon), Grid@Asia will define joint research agenda to address the international Grid priorities. This initiative will rely on the local support of the Asian partners to ensure on-site organisation, enhanced visibility and the participation of high-profile industrial and scientific delegations. This will prepare a reliable ground for future cooperation between EU and the two Asian grid communities in the context of FP6 and support the emergence of sustainable and longer-term collaboration.By strengthening cooperation between both communities, Grid@Asia is expected to provide Europe with a clear picture of the Grid community in those two Asian countries. Through weaving additional links with leading Asian Grid research communities, Grid@Asia will support long term international cooperation, in particular through the integration of Asian expertise to leading European Grid initiatives (Networks of Excellence, Integrated Projects, STREPS, ...) within the FP6 and later on within forthcoming FP7. This will position the European Grid community as a leading centre of excellence, enrich European expertise in the field and support the adoption of common Grid standards worldwide.
