Enhancing dialogue on nanotechnologies and nanosciences in society at the European level

Objetivo

The NANO DIALOGUE project will establish an integrated process of communication and social debate about nanotechnologies and nanosciences (NN) at European level. The proponent consortium is composed of organisations of excellence in different fields, int egrating different competences (scientific research, social participation, science communication) and representing a wide European dimension. These elements will allow a high quality of communication tools and methodologies as well as widespread diffusio n of the results. Even though NN are key-issues for the next future (for biomedical applications, telecommunication, new materials,...) they are still not well known and understood at large. The project aims firstly at providing information and raising awareness among the general public on the last developments of research in this field. Secondly, at implementing social dialogue between the research community, citizens and other social actors in order to identify main issues and expectations from these groups. Among the expected results is to provide the EC and experts with recommendations, illustrating the main social concerns about NN. Research in NN is yet at an early stage; so the need for information is the starting point for public debate and for social participation on their future developments. This will be achieved through the definition of scientific guidelines in a European meeting and the establishment of a Scientific Advisory Board the organisation of a participatory workshop with the inv olvement of scientists, decision makers and stakeholders who'll work together to elaborate a common synopsis for communication tools; the production of 8 exhibition modules and a web site including specific tools for collecting data on citizens expectatio ns; the organisation of exhibitions and events in 8 participating countries during 6 months at least; a European Conference targeted to relevant experts, decision makers and stakeholders.
