Large-scale integration of RES-E and co-generation into energy supplies in Associated Candidate Countries

Objective

The eight Central European Countries (CEC), which have joined the EU on May, 1st 2004, face particular problems related to large-scale integration of renewable- and co-generation electricity into energy supplies. These problems do not often meet sufficient attention from the European Commission, also due to scarce participation of the CEC partners in joint European research programmes. Current 6th FP ASS-SSA call is aimed at increasing CEC participation in the creation of the European Research Area that will result also in the increased interest in solving energy related research problems particular for this part of Europe. The proposal addresses objectives of the ACC-SSA call and the work programme on sustainable energy supplies. It will enhance large-scale integration of RES-E and co-generation into energy supplies in Central European Countries and increase the number of researchers from the region in joint EU's research undertakings in this field. The programme's objectives will be realised by a series of national events and one international conference. These events will activate the energy society in CEC, defining potential problems of policy-, technical-, economic- and societal nature, defining potential partners for future consortia and last but not least, creating a database of researchers and potential research topics to support CORDIS database. The project's work plan is created to optimally achieve its objectives and to meet the goal of the ACC-SSA call and the energy work programme. The project's consortium consists of nine organisations representing eight new Central European Member States, and one Western European partner to provide the project with information and experience from the EU-15. The project will result in activation of the CEC research and energy stakeholders, defining potential areas of further research as well as creation of database to support the European Commission efforts to promote international research.
