Objectif The aim of this research project is to study the feasibility of employing a plasma arc furnace for almost continuous melting of electric furnace filter dust containing approximately 55% Fe2O3 and 10-16% ZnO, as well as other valuable minerals. Filter dusts rich in toxic metal compounds have for long been a source of pollution; it is hoped to be able to drive off the more volatile metal compounds and to recover them in cooling chambers. Iron will be melted and refined in the furnace and cast. Studies will be carried out to determine the validity of applying the test results to large-scale plants.
