Obiettivo The scientific objective of the Baltic Summer School 2002 (BSS-2002) is to offer scientific information at the highest possible level on the topic "Signalling in Muscle Metabolism". The course will give a deep insight into methods used in modern muscle research, a deep understanding of the fundamental aspects of regulation in muscle metabolism, as well as application of this knowledge to prevent and/or treat diseases like obesity, type II diabetes, the metabolic syndrome and muscle atrophy in the aging population. These diseases currently burden mankind and have a large socio-economical impact on modern society. The scientific objective of the Baltic Lab Course 2002 (BLC-2002) is to offer laboratory experience related to the abovementioned topic. The course will give a deep insight and hands-on experience into methods used in modern muscle metabolic research. It is intended as a continuation of the Baltic Summer School 2002, which provides deep theoretical insight into the topic and the way knowledge in this field can be used to prevent and/or treat diseases like obesity, type II diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. Thus, the Baltic Summer School 2002 (BSS-2002) and the Baltic Lab Course 2002 (BLC_2002) addresses a wide scientific community, from researchers in basic sciences to physicians working in clinical research. The rapid technological development in the field of signalling in muscle metabolism and the large socio-economical impact of the disease states related to modern life style and characterized by abnormalities in muscle metabolism makes this summer school particularly important and relevant.
