Our objective is to combine a training activity (EuroSummerSchool) and a research activity (EuroWorkshop) in order to provide a new model for the intensive training of Young Researchers ("EuroTrainingSession") and improving the collaboration between researchers within Europe, in the field of nonlinear science and complexity.

The topics presented in the present proposal include: 2002: Biomechanics: from Molecules to Morphogenesis aiming at establishing a dynamical bridge connecting structure to function in molecular and cellular biology. Examples are the mechanics of ion channels and molecular motors, the physics of supercoiling and condensation in DNA, the mechanics and dynamics of self assembly and polymorphism in proteins. the rheology of the cytoskeleton, active cell spreading, adhesion, aggregation and migration, and mechano-transduction. 2003: From Pattern Formation to Granular Physics and Soft Condensed Matterfi where continuum descriptions of the type introduced in particular in pattern formation will be used to treat complex materials in particular out of equilibrium, including those with an intrinsically discrete structure like granular flows and foams, but also liquid films and interfaces.

One aim is to understand the principles of self-assembly and possibly the formulation of new unifying principles governing the non-equilibrium world. Future sessions will be devoted to topics in fluids and turbulence, in non-linear optics, geomorphological and ecological patterns, waves and fronts in chemical and biological systems, instabilities in quantum condensates, topics in soft matter physics, etc.
