Objective The aim of this project is to produce coke with a low level of anisotropic phases and a high degree of stabilisation to reduce susceptibility to breakdown in a blast furnace operating at high levels of coal injection. This will be done by reducing the amounts of high-grade coals and increasing the use of well mixed fine-grain coke/petroleum coke in the coke oven blend, without altering the coking time. The breakdown performance of this coke in a furnace operating at more than 200 kg/tonne coal injection will be tested.
