Objectif Despite the huge technological achievements obtained with end-of-pipe environmental technologies, our society still faces serious environmental problems for which a stringent solution needs to be found. The increasing scarcity of clean water highlights the need for appropriate management of available water resources. This also applies for the management of reusable resources in wastewater flows, like minerals, energy and organic matter. In case of proper implementation of integrated environmental reuse techniques (INERT), sewage, agricultural and even industrial effluents can become important sources for drinking water, fertilisers, soil conditioners, and to some extend energy.
