Obiettivo The WORKSAFE project aimed to improve access to and expand the use of the large amount of data available in European public sector organisations - including research institutes, public health institutions and hospitals - on health protection of workers and workplace safety. The action planned by the project was considered as crucial for public health policy within the EU. It was carried out by using the most advanced multimedia technologies for information communication and diffusion. The overall project objective was the establishment of a pan-European distributed database and the design and development of a set of web-based access services to allow exploitation of available content in the domain addressed. To this end, the project defined a meta-data model based on knowledge-sharing techniques, which supported web services for content distribution to a large group of users. The WORKSAFE consortium included all major players required by the implementation of the complete multimedia contents chain: highly qualified content providers from an internationally renowned centre of excellence, and the technology providers were well-known advanced software system companies.
