Grant unification for information and dissemination in Europe

Objectif

Grants are a major policy instrument for the European Commission and for national governments. They stimulate private and public organisations and third-sector parties to perform 'desirable' activities and initiate desirable projects addressing EU and national policies. Currently, much of the information on grant schemes is provided by individual public awarding bodies or national private organisations. Their information is disseminated through a range of websites, CD-ROMs and print publications in their mother tongue. As a result of these various sources, pan-European organisations have difficulty finding their way through the dispersed supply of information on public funding.

The GUIDE project addressed this lack of access to public sector information by establishing and operating an online European grant funding database and website allowing users to access grant information easily from a single source and in all official EU languages. The project aimed to demonstrate how such a database can improve access to public sector information and brought together three private providers of websites containing grant information in five European countries: Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.
