MicroTechnologies for Re-launching European Machine Manufacturing SMEs

Cel

The need to produce microcomponents in a mass scale introduces new production requirements for the machine and equipment manufacturers in terms of making available appropriated, cost-effective and reliable equipment for producing those microcomponents. I t is a fact that most of the European Machine Tool SME companies and component manufacturers are getting in the doldrums, so they will not be competent in offering such high-tech solutions in a competitive way when the micromanufacturing at mass scale be comes a reality. To deal effectively with such a problem in order to achieve the desired competitiveness, European SMEs in the machine tool manufacturing and tooling production sectors must: (a) Acquire knowledge about micromanufacturing technologies in order to be able to produce complete solutions (machine + process) for microcomponents manufacturing (b) Create a collaborative scenario in the field of microcomponents manufacturing in which SMEs can access the necessary multidisciplinary knowledge a nd skills to lead the market of micro manufacturing equipment. The LAUNCH-MICRO IP proposal will intend to solve the above described situation and in doing so will contribute to increase the competitiveness and sustainability of EU SME Machine Tool and c omponents manufacturers in issues related with micromanufacturing. Main objectives of LAUNCH-MICRO proposal will be: To provide EU Machine Tool SMEs with the technical knowledge and methodologies for the construction of equipment for micromanufacturing. To provide EU SMEs with leading edge knowledge on micromanufacturing that will allow them to compete at a global manufacturing level. To convert this sector in a growing and dynamic technology-based one thanks to an effective use of ICT technologies. To use the existing know-how and researching capabilities of European machine manufacturing SMEs in order to establish an efficient and collaborative network for training SMEs personnel.
