Objective
Participants in this network for the EST programme are three HE institutions and two SMEs.The network will educate by research 12 fellows towards PhD and 6 more fellows on short stage fellowships of 10 months. The network will operate at a European dimensio n by educating the fellows according to a structured training programme which exploits the expertise in interdisciplinary fields existent within the network. The training involves experimental and taught components tuned to each fellow ¿s research project.S upervisors drawn from at least two institutions will guide the experimental work of the fellowship while the Euro PhD students will be actively involved in experimental work at the sites of at least two institutions in different countries.Specialist, genera l scientific and research and management skills training will be delivered according to a plan devised to complement the teaching at the sites of the institutions where the fellows will be seconded or recruited, with teaching organised during a Summer Schoo l and two workshops. The complementary teaching programme will broaden the expertise of the fellows beyond the subject of the project concerned. The recruitment of PhD students will take place in the year one.Short stage single institution fellowships will b e used to select fellows registered elsewhere, preferably in years 3 and year 4.All three HE institutions in the network have excellent track records in PG research education and in European student exchange programmes. All participants have excellent lab fa cilities, engaged in the last decade on interdisciplinary directions in biomedical optics.Fellows will be trained by research on devices, systems and methods for non-invasive HIgh RESolution Optical Measurements.
