Mechanical property models for high strength complex microstructures

Objective

The project aims to reach a deeper understanding on the effect processing has on microstructure related to the mechanical behaviour in high strength complex microstructures present in dual-phase (DP) and multi-phase steels.

The effect of the precipitation strengthening, the interaction of soft and hard phases, the impact of internal stresses around hard particles (DP-steels) and the strain partitioning will also be investigated. Besides classical light and electron metallography, EBSD and nano-indentation techniques will be used to characterise the microstructure and to obtain mechanical information.

It is also the aim of the project to develop microstructure-property models for such steels in order to get a tool for prediction and design. These models will be validated through experiment.
