Quality improvement by metallurgical optimised stock temperature evolution in the reheating furnace including microstructure feedback from the rolling mill

Objetivo

The overall project aims are to optimise product quality, reheating furnace operation and material yield by improved monitoring and control of the reheating furnace and rolling mill.

This will be achieved by heating according to new heating curves optimised with respect to the microstructure of the steel, handling of stops and changes of steel grades in the rolling mill. The new heating curve will be developed through a combination of laboratory experiments, industrial trials and theoretical modelling approach for the microstructure, stock temperature and energy consumption.

The new heating strategies will be implemented in four partner countries to optimise the furnace and rolling mill operation. Thus, the competitiveness and efficiency of the EU steel industry will be improved.
