Spectrum policies and radio technologies viable in emerging wireless societies

Objetivo

The "Spectrum Policies and Radio Technologies Viable In Emerging Wireless Societies" (SPORT VIEWS) SSA will study evolutions in radio spectrum management methods conducive to spectrum usage optimisation for innovation and diffusion of new information technologies and services.

It will assess the future impact of new wireless technologies and how these technologies will impact spectrum usage and help improve spectrum usage optimisation, as stated in 2.4.5 "Mobile and Wireless Systems and Platforms Beyond 3G" of the IST Work Programme. SPORT VIEWS will analyze how these new technologies can provide or require new methods of spectrum management. It will explore the relations between advanced technologies, future services, industry structures and radio spectrum management methods in light of the objectives of the European Commission of harmonisation, flexibility and innovation as described in the i2010 initiative of the European Commission and of three recent Communications from the Commission addressing radio spectrum issues.

These are:
- A forward-looking radio spectrum policy for the European Union: second annual report
- A market-based approach to spectrum management in the European Union
- EU spectrum policy priorities for the digital switchover in the context of the upcoming ITU Regional Radiocommunication Conference

The SSA will study and describe possible transitions from existing to future strategies with respect to spectrum management methods.
Experts from industry, academia and regulation, will contribute to the achievement of the SSA goals through a study, two workshops and a conference.
