Cel Simulation software of EM fields and wave propagation of large antenna arrays and macro-environments has today a dimensional limit. Generally, this means surfaces less than 25 wavelengths a side or volumes of the same area and less than 1 wavelength thick.A goal for the Mid-Sweden University and its industrial partner (Telewide) is to simulate a whole microwave antenna system including both source and antenna. Unfortunately, the large and complicated antenna structure could not be simulated by more than a part, one hundred of the total antenna with the best presently available Electromagnetic Field Solvers of today.With a new approach to solve large array problems, combined with the use of parallel supercomputer, the size of structures and environments that is needed to simulate will be met. With this goal met, Telewide can continue its work on developing waveguide lens antenna technology and being the leader in that field.The result of this research will be not only the possibility to simulate the antenna but also any other complex and large (compared to the wavelength) structure. It will be possible to simulate structures many times larger than before.The needs in the region for simulating large structures can be found in the development of complex antennas, in the construction of new microwave scanning systems in the wood industry and in research in fields of wireless LANs that cover a larger city area.The research group at Mid Sweden University will have access to European networks within the area of microwave theory and software development and transfer their knowledge to regional companies and research institutes as well as their master students.As the parallel supercomputer and the software will be available via Internet, it can serve any European re search institute, university or company with larger structures to simulate.
