Objetivo The three centres, in Caen, Liverpool and Oslo, have close collaborations in the field of research in oxides. Within this project their action will be focused on the training of young Ph-D students in the field of synthesis and characterisation of new oxides with specific physical properties. Oxides, as ceramics or thin films, are of the highest interest for the generation of new specific physical properties. In order to build a new "Ecole de Pensée" in Materials Science, the training of the PhD students w ill be performed in a concerted way, with a multidisciplinary and multi-technicity competence between different Centres (Caen, Liverpool, Oslo). Objectives: training of the students to the discovery of new oxides, with new properties, and to the study of the relationships between structure-chemical bond physical properties.Area of research: new ionic conductors and materials for electrodes for developing applications in batteries. New magnetic oxides for magnetic storage and sensing. New thermoelectric materials, especially cobalt based oxides for energy conversion at high temperature. New transparent conductors. Multi-layer thin films involving ferroelectric oxides in view of realising multifunctional properties in various heterostructures. Texturing and sintering of oxides, for electronic and electrotechnic applications.Structuring of the training: besides the training to techniques and to methods of research, the training is focused on complementary skills, e.g. communication, management and industry, initiation to teaching and to seminars. This project aims at encouraging the development of a new "Ecole de pensée" (Think Tank), at structuring the strategy of synthesis, chemistry and physics, and at encouraging the synergy between Ph-D students and researchers of different countries.
