Objective MEDIACITY transfers outstanding international knowledge on the field of media science, architecture and urban studies to a less favoured region. The proposal supports the establishment of an innovative research institute and educational program. MEDIACITY enables the proposer to build up a research competence in the knowledge-based society. It will especially focus on the particular situation of cities in transition countries. It addressed the research needs for the implementation of new media and communication technologies.MEDIACITY aims therefore to invite international experts to build up a centre of km/ledge at the Bauhaus-University Weimar, which aims at the realisation of practical projects in cooperation with different institutions of the region such as economic al partners, public administration, social and cultural organisations. Main focus will be the use for new media in the practice of urban planning, land use and architecture. Furthermore, the new institute will provide a profound knowledge basis with regard to the necessary political and social framework to ensure the sustainable and socially balanced embedding of these technologies.MEDIACITY wants to achieve a new kind of cooperation between media sciences, architecture and urban studies. It is aiming that way to re search solutions for urban development and the realisation of the Lisbon goals, especially the programme for E-Europe.MEDIACITY will help to rise the competitiveness of an East German region by developing a special and highly innovative knowledge competence, which can be used to integrate the regional educational institutions into the emerging European Research Area.
