Objectif The knowledge transfer objectives of the project are to:1) introduce to Liverpool a critical mass of external expertise in the field of laser micro-processing,2) train the team of academics and researchers in laser processing at Liverpool in the new techniques,3) develop the basis for long term benefit of the knowledge transfer by a range of measures that will ensure the ongoing viability of the technology at Liverpool,4) establish an enduring network of contacts/ collaborators at project end.This will be implemented by the recruitment of external researchers with the required expertise in laser micro processing from Europe. This will comprise an integrated programme over three years in which key skill requirements will be matched with a suitable range of experience in the researchers appointed. In addition, two visiting professorships of shorter duration will be created to bring in very specific high-level expertise.Existing staff at Liverpool will take part in a structured programme of knowledge transfer, which will involve:1) Lectures and seminars in laser micro engineering techniques, including background theory,2) Hands-on training in the specific micro technologies,3) Joint work with the visiting researchers on real applications development project s with companies,4) Joint dissemination via conference proceedings / journal publications.The new knowledge acquired will have a significant impact on the capabilities of the Laser Group at Liverpool, which will be extended into the new area of laser micro processing. This will allow it to participate in UK national and EU RTD programmes and to form strategic partnerships with large companies and SMEs throughout Europe in the this area.
