Objectif Currently available interface technology for human computer interaction (=HCI) often comes with a pre-defined set of interaction modalities. For interactive media art, edutainment and entertainment applications on the other hand, innovative and surprising interaction experiences are becoming increasingly important when the artist aims to capture the audiences' attention and emotion. To construct and design intuitive interactive media art experiences, it is therefore often necessary to develop novel-in-house hardware interfaces that combined with custom-designed software structures propose novel technical as well as metaphorical content. My research topic compromises the development of innovative human-computer interfaces for interactive art, that range from multi-modal interaction systems, to the use of un-encumbered interfaces and the development of non-verbal communication systems. In the past twelve years I have researched and developed various interactive technologies for interactive art, capturing and translating for example the users' touch, voice, speech, vision and movement data and using them as primary interaction input for my interactive art systems. I plan to further develop multi-sensory media art experiences, and to extend the boundaries of currently available HCI technologies by constructing and developing novel hardware and software technology that benefit and empower novel interactive media art experiences.
