Objectif The project consortium will produce 11 short radio plays (ca. 10 min each) for children with subsequent studio talks where children will have a chance to ask scientists questions in relation to the produced radio plays (ca. 10-15 min each). Furthermore 11 radio shows (30 min each) involving scientists and society for the target group teenagers. The broadcasts intend to inspire young listeners to become interested in science and to understand the important contribution of research for the solution of global present questions e.g. climate change, gene technology, nutrition, and poverty. The goals of the project are to awaken enthusiasm and to encourage the dynamic interaction and exchange of information between the scientific community, civil society and young people through radio shows in collaboration with scientists, NGOs and young people. The project will make use of cutting-edge and innovative Internet communication tools like Podcasting and weblogs. The project has strong dissemination partners. The Austrian and German Federation of Community Radio Stations have more than 50 member radio stations in Germany and Austria. They will ensure the broadcast via FM. Mainly young people are among the listeners of community radio stations. Further objectives: To awaken curiosity in order to learn more about specific scientific fields. Transfer of knowledge in an understandable way for children and youth. Discovery of interrelations beyond knowledge of facts. To understand interrelations is a precondition for informed decisions in complex environments. Astonishment: to be surprised leads to further curiosity and may lead to new insight. Encourage young people to consider a scientific career. The University of Salzburg, Department of Communication Science, will be involved in the project conception and evaluation.
