Objectif The Centre for Mathematical Medicine (CMM) at the University of Nottingham comprises a large group of applied mathematicians, applied probabilists and statisticians who undertake multidisciplinary research in a broad range of topics of relevance to the life sciences.Working closely with collaborators in biomedical disciplines based elsewhere at the University of Nottingham, this team is one of the largest groups of its kind in Europe. It undertakes internationally- leading research using a wide range of mathematical, numerical and statistical techniques.Funding is sought for 10 Fellows to come to Nottingham, each for a 3-year period, in order to undertake directed training in the application of mathematical and statistical methods to the life sciences. The training of each Fellow will include a substantial individual research project on a topic relevant to an area of molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, neuroscience, immunology or tissue engineering. Each project will be conducted under the supervision of two CMM members (ensuring that each Fellow develops skills in both deterministic and stochastic modelling approaches) and an experimentalist (ensuring that the project is highly relevant to the underlying biomedical application).Fellows will receive comprehensive training in relevant research methodologies and in generic research and transferable skills, through taught modules, taught courses, workshops, seminars and individual supervision.Fellows will work in a unique and stimulating research environment, which offers training that is both strongly multidisciplinary (through exploitation of a wide range of mathematical and statistical methods) and interdisciplinary (through close contact with experimental applications). The Programme will equip Fellows with the skills necessary to work at the interface between mathematical and life sciences in industry or academia, and promises exciting scientific advances.
