Objective Particle physics and cosmology are two of the most exciting and dynamic research areas in pure science. Our understanding of the Universe on both large and small scales has been revolutionised over the past 30 years. To maintain this progress, it is essential to produce highly trained early stage researchers. Despite the obvious synergies between these two disciplines, there has been surprisingly little interaction between the leading research groups. The goal of the ICCIPPP fellowship is to redress this imbalance and provide early stage training at the interface between particle theory and cosmology, astroparticle physics. The recent establishment of the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics at Durham University, which contains two of the leading research groups in the world in these areas, the Institute for Computational Cosmology and the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology, offers a unique opportunity to provide this specialized training. The established and successful postgraduate training courses of these groups will be developed and augmented to provide the required early stage training. The Ogden Centre can offer access to unrivalled, dedicated supercomputing facilities, which are essential for modern theoretical research. The specific areas in which will provide training are:(a) mathematical modelling of complex systems(b) advanced numerical computation(c) e-science methodologies, such as data mining, visualisation and grid computing. The generic training we provide will ensure that early stag e fellows are fully equipped to pursue careers in academia or to transfer their skills to industrial or technical applications.
