Obiettivo The objective of this project is to develop methods, tools, interfaces and architectures to facilitate the exchange of technical and commercial data between independent organisations working together in manufacturing or distribution chains. The project will be focused on the requirements of the automotive industry. The objective of this project is to develop methods, tools, interfaces and architectures to facilitate the exchange of technical and commercial data between independent organisations working together in manufacturing or distribution chains. The project will be focused on the requirements of the automotive industry. The first stage was to identify the scope and content of the critical issues which must be addressed. This led to the definition and construction of a laboratory model (AS-IS) of a supplier manufacturer distributor chain which reflects the current state of the art. This model will be used to simulate information exchange and transfer in particular areas of investigation. Further stages of the project identified the areas of improvement and entailed the enhancement of the AS-IS model to a FUTURE model. The results of these activities enabled the preparation of requirement specifications for the necessary information system components of the integrated supply and distribution chain. Throughout the analysis phase the project addressed the need for the exchange of neutral data, in terms of both message format and content. The major benefits envisaged arise from the orientation of the project towards satisfying the needs of the customer and include: decrease in product introduction time, shorter and more reliable delivery lead times, reduced costs, lower stocks, and improved product availability.Because the computer integrated manufacture for multisupplier operations (CMSO) project is concerned with the improvement of business performance through the application of information technology (IT), there are a number of different aspects to the exploitation of CMSO results: hardware and software products; implementations of methods and products; business and strategic guidance; business cases in support of further research; identification of the business cases for implementation; technical guidance for implementation, training and education; and input to standar ds and other technical and business organisations. The first stage was to identify the scope and content of the critical issues which must be addressed.
