FOster the Comprehension, adoption and USe of Knowledge intensive technologies for coding and sharing 3D media content in consolidate and emerging application communities

Project description

Intelligent Content and Semantics
With the focus on the awareness of new ways of working with 3D models and objects

FOCUS K3D will support 3D user communities, and help them in the adoption of best-practices for the integrated use of semantics in 3D content modelling and processing. The coordination action will promote a critical mass of interdisciplinary activities to encourage different communities to learn from each other while contributing valuable skills to the problems of 3D content and knowledge capture, interpretation and sharing. It will also coordinate actions devoted to the dissemination of available research solutions to a wide community of users. FOCUS K3D has identified a number of applications that are both consolidated in the massive use of 3D digital resources (like Medicine and Bioinformatics or Product Modelling) and emerging (like Gaming or Archaeology).

FOCUS K 3D wants to promote the adoption of best-practices for the use of semantics in 3D content modelling and processing.
Aims
To build multi-disciplinary communities of researchers, 3D content creators and users both in consolidate fields and in emerging areas
To carry out analyses to identify issues that currently inhibit a broader user participation in the production of 3D content, and initiatives acting as catalysts for such a development
To promote and evaluate the results achieved by recent and ongoing projects to identify promising future developments
Motivation
Recent research outcomes in the representation and processing of the semantics of 3D media risk to remain confined to the community of researchers, which are professional in the use of knowledge technologies and graphical tools, thus limiting their accessibility and opportunities for a general use. Their exploitation is now conditioned by how these experts will communicate with the domains that produce and use 3D content.
FOCUS K 3D has identified a number of applications that are both consolidated in the massive use of 3D digital resources (like Biomedicine or Product Modelling) and emerging (like Gaming or Archaeology).
Organization of work
It will be organized through application-oriented working groups (AWGs) to customise the dissemination activities to the specific needs, and a methodological WG (MWG). The MWG will deliver strategy reports, questionnaires and roadmaps for future research. AWGs will deliver thematic workshops, reports, interviews, STARs. The activities will be disseminated to large communities through the web portal, conference presentations, newsletters.
Impact
The project will be useful for industry, to have an orientation for future ways of working in 3D content production, share and maintenance; academia, to develop research strategic agendas; IT providers, to have a perspective view into future business needs; the EU commission to define future actions

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
