Objective
The aim of the proposed project is to promote transboundary cooperation between the research teams from NIS (Russia, Ukraine) and Europe (Greece, UK). The creation of user friendly novel optical sensors using photorefractive and non-linear effects will be carried out. The simplification of the optical schemes of such sensors will be achieved by means of novel approaches invented by the collaborating groups. Along with the creation of novel optical sensors synthesis and growth of semiconductor materials (CdTe, CdZnTe) with distinguished characteristics which are suitable for adaptive optical sensors will take place. The novel sensors for the vibration/frequency monitoring of civil and biological objects, for optical ultrasonic inspection, temperature sensors, acoustic sensors based on optical fibres will be developed and improved. Implementation of the research project will solve the vital problems of ensuring security and control of potentially dangerous objects relating to civil and industrial infrastructure. This will help to improve the environmental security. The results of the project are expected to be of importance and benefit to automobile industry, aircraft manufacturers in NIS (Ukraine, Russia) and European countries (UK, Greece). For Greece the vital question is the earthquake prediction/detection and the project can solve partly some aspects of this problem. For NIS countries introduction of novel optical sensors will prevent breakdowns in aging civil and industrial equipment.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
