Objective
The project is aimed at the detailed description of the Earth's inner core's surface below Eurasia. The problem is topical nowadays as description of fine structure of the inner core boundary (ICB) is in demand by geophysicists studying problems of geodynamo, formation of the Earth and its core, mineralogy and other topics. To address the issue, the project assumes using waves pre-critically reflected from the boundary between liquid outer and solid inner cores (PKiKP waves). Such waveforms are the most sensitive instrument to study fine structure of the ICB. The research plan includes tasks of collecting existing data on PKiKP and obtaining new ones (basically from deep earthquakes in Central Asia), data processing and providing interpretation in terms of the ICB structure. We plan to make use of the collected digital seismic records of Underground Nuclear Explosions of USSR, USA and China, and receive new data from three-component and array stations that recorded deep earthquakes in Pamir and Hindu-Kush area. Various types of stacking, correlation analysis, f-k analysis, time-and-spectral analysis, polarization characteristics, wavelet analysis will be used to detect and measure PKiKP waveforms and coda waves. Finally, on the base of comparison between the experimental observations and model estimates with respect to standard and modified representations of the ICB, an interpretation of the obtained data will be developed. Such interpretation will include both structural models of the ICB and quantitative and qualitative descriptions of this dynamic region.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
