Deepwater umbilical-less control system for well completion and intervention

Objective

The goal of this project is to deploy a Deepwater umbilical-less completion and intervention system on offshore campaigns planned for Q2 2002 and beyond. The objectives of an umbilical-less system are to reduce operating costs, improve safety, overcome umbilical related HPHT constraints and reduce environmental risk by removing a possible leak source for chemical and hydraulic fluids.

In order to achieve these objectives this project must design build and test a prototype electromagnetic Communication system, a sub-sea hydraulic power supply and a sub-sea electrical power unit. This prototype has to be integrated with the current Schlumberger deepwater control system that operates to a 3000m water depth at hydrostatic pressures of up to 345 Bar. The major challenge of the prototype designs is the packaging of equipment to locate inside a marine riser with a maximum OD of 18 5/8".
