Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Reinforced Concrete Structures Subjected to Impact Loads

Objective

The analysis and design of reinforced concrete structures against extreme loads, such as earthquakes, blasts, and impacts, has been an objective of many researchers and designers. As a result of recently elevated terror threat levels in the world, demand for the impact resistant design of buildings has increased. Numerous studies have been conducted to-date for understanding and developing methodologies predicting the behaviour of RC structures under impact loads. The proposed project aims to develop a nonlinear finite element analysis program for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures subjected to impact loads. The program to be developed will employ high-level state-of-the-art reinforced concrete modeling techniques. A well-instrumented experimental study will be conducted for corroboration, involving reinforced concrete slabs subjected to impact loads at the centre. Results of the experimental program will also be used for the critical evaluation of the current impact resistant design practices.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
