Provision of optimum radio AcceSS at the Emerging Next GEneration NetwoRks

Objective

Networks of the future are tending towards a diverse wireless networking world, where scenarios define that the end-user will be able to attain any service, at any time on effectively any network that is optimised for the application at hand resulting in “flexibility and choice” to enhance the quality of life of the individual. Wireless trends have suggested that a focal part of the so called “Next Generation Networks (NGNs)” will be seamless interoperability between network operators and access technologies in a bid to provide ubiquitous coverage, and cost-effective communications in an era where spectral resources are a premium. Our proposal will address cooperative ad-hoc and mesh networking that considers heterogeneity with the final aim to ensure undiminished service perception whilst the subscriber terminal migrates freely between networks that might belong to different operators. The main objective of the project is the design, the optimization and the experimental evaluation in a test-bed of advanced MAC protocols for cooperative ARQ scenarios in order to extend the coverage area of NGNs infrastructure networks (WiMax/UMTS LTE or WLAN) and evaluate the performance of the propose protocol in different cooperative schemes and different network conditions.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
