Heterogeneous Application Generator Standard Architecture

Objetivo

The HANSA project will develop an architectural framework and a software toolkit for building business decision support applications by using domain-specific application generators. The application generators will be supported by a common toolkit based on a generic object-oriented framework. HANSA aims to establish an open-ended environment for applications building tools.
An architectural framework and a software toolkit for building business decision support applications by using domain specific application generators has been developed. The application generators are supported by a common toolkit based on a generic object oriented framework. The architecture provides support for the flexible configuration and execution of applications, including industry standard tools, across different platforms. This is achieved through a platform independent applications programming interface (API), with implementations for the personal computer (PC) under Windows and on Unix workstations with X-windows. The Framework design is inspired by Microsoft's DDE and OLE, and on Unix systems is implemented by way of SunSoft's ToolTalk protocol. The project is also producing application demonstrators in 4 business areas (marketing database analysis, banking asset forecasting, insurance and executive information systems).

Each application has produced a stand alone prototype to indicate the type of solution it offers and to generate user feedback. These prototypes are currently being reimplemented using the framework to demonstrate ease of integration with industry standard tools and to show portability between platforms.
