Objective
The presented research proposal is foreseen as close collaboration of know-how university and animal breeding sector under the research leadership of experienced researcher. Pedigree verification and identification by means of DNA testing in feasible, but not applied at the practical level yet. There are still an obstacles such as: lack of general knowledge about this type of analysis, lack of cost effective, simple and fast methodology. At the moment, in the north – western region as well as in other parts of Poland, blood groups testing is the only way to resolve the problem of individual origin. This method, has low reliability, and has a very high cost. It demands very high state subsides every year. Therefore with this ERG grant we propose to develop an innovative, simple, fast and cost efficient methodology of parental testing by mean of DNA testing. Proposed methodology has several advantages over blood testing system, to name some of them: lower sampling cost, sampling non invasive, lower analysis cost, higher power of verification, additional possibilities of identification. Described methodology is based on hair bulbs as a DNA source, multiplex PCR reaction and incorporation of heritable trait X as quality check of performed analysis.
