Objective "On 28 September 2007, the University of Mainz, the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry and the State Ministry for Education, Research, Youth and Cultural Affairs – with the technical support of TVL Ritter Veranstaltungstechnik – plan to stage a Researchers’ Night with the motto ""Hot and Cool Science"". Aim of the event is to celebrate science and researchers, while introducing a broad public to the unique research and learning environment in Mainz. To highlight the focus on researchers as people, the evening will allow a broad range of opportunities for the public to meet and communicate with scientists, including e.g. fireside conversations and a “Hot & Cool Café” staffed by researchers. The public will be able to experience science in a range of hands-on activities – guided lab tours, tours of the outstanding research facilities in Mainz, and hands-on experiments. Indoors, a host of research projects will explain their activities at dedicated project stands, while offering interactive elements such as quizzes, competitions and try-out features. The same area will comprise a European stand, general information, and the exhibition of works of art entered into the Drawing Competition “Draw a Researcher”. Several fascinating projects shall be introduced on an outdoor central stage, where the audience can also enjoy the awards ceremony for a drawing competition and musical and cultural highlights having to do with and/or performed by researchers. Light effects and catering around the central stage will round off the festive atmosphere. To attract as many visitors as possible, the event will target different audience groups with a broad range of highlights and activities, and will be widely advertised in all media outlets. During this process, the awareness campaign will be able to harness the impact of other public outreach events carried out by the University. The quality and impact of the Researchers’ Night will be estimated in a comprehensive impact assessment."
