Objective
The Region of South Bohemia, which occupies Eastern half of the convergence region CZ-NUTS 2 Southwest, lacks large industries and relies to great extent on the country-side. The Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences (BCAS) located in the District plays important role in assessing environmental impact of various activities but contributes little to the implementation of novel technologies that would enhance and diversify productivity. MOBITAG project is the first and crucial step to rectifying the situation through the development of modern research capacities with the aid of colleagues from advanced parts of EU. This goal is directly related to the intended construction of the Biotechnological Institute of Applied Ecology. The project aims at enhancing BCAS research potential to a level allowing development and deployment of novel biotechnologies for a highly productive, environment-friendly, and sustainable agriculture. Research enhancement will target areas: (1) Genome analysis; (2) Exploitation of natural compounds; (3) Transgenosis; (4) Safety aspects of GMO. Another goal of MOBITAG is the support of managerial skills, especially in respect to FP7. Dissemination activities will be focused on the education of farmers as well as general public about contemporary agrobiotechnologies. Project results will be provided to regional authorities and higher level politicians to be used in the preparation of R&D&I plans and agricultural policy. Project goals will be achieved through (1) Recruitment of experts who are working in BCAS on temporary basis, (2) Return of experienced researchers working in USA), (3) Training of BCAS staff in EU laboratories, (4) Participation of EU scientists in BCAS research, (5) Mobility of researchers, (6) Training of research managers, (7) Acquisition of research equipment, (8) Organization of meetings, (9) Several types of dissemination activities.
