Freezing milt as tool for genetic improvement of farmed sea-bream

Objective

The proposed project wants to accomplish tile following results in sea breeding:
a) to use frozen milt of males sampled in different farms to progeny tested them;
b) to use progeny test results to assess a genetic index to each sampled mate for trait of economical interest;
c) to test the significance of G x E interaction by ranking the genetic values of the sampled males at two different location where progenies were grown.

Two large fingerlings producers are involved: each of them will sample a minimum of 10 males to be genetically evaluated. Milt will be collected from sampled males and frozen. Frozen milt will be used to fertilize two groups of females (female reference population). Progeny groups will be kept at two different locations and fattened following two different procedures.

The work will be organised according to the following TASKS.
A. Sampling males from different SMEs, collecting and freezing milt.
B. Breeding the reference female populations.
