Reference Materials for Biofuel Specifications

Objective

With the increased addition of biological products to petrol and diesel, e.g. ethanol and FAME, the quality of these products becomes more important. There is, however, up to now no international consensus on the technical specifications of biofuel. Nor is it clear what measurement standards, reference materials and measurement techniques are needed. The proposed project will deal with the subject of measurement standards (= reference materials). Reference materials with well-characterized reference values are essential for pre-normative research and standardization, i.e. in the development and validation of measurement methods. In the project it will be investigated which reference materials are already available and how the reference values for these materials were established. From this investigation it will become clear for which parameters and for which type of bio-ethanol and FAME reference materials are missing. The next step will be to investigate the feasibility of developing these reference materials for the identified parameters. Finally the project will establish the current quality of measurement practice by means of interlaboratory comparisons using these materials. The information supplied on the applied methodology and the performance characteristics can be used for the development of harmonized standard methods. An additional aim is to provide guidance and material for producing reference materials for the different test methods required by the ultimate global biofuel blend specifications.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: https://op.europa.eu/en/web/eu-vocabularies/euroscivoc.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
