Objectif To complement the current rapid developments in experimental x-ray spectroscopy, exemplified by a number of new synchrotron installations both in Europe and outside Europe, a strategy for high-accuracy calculations of the relevant physical observables obtained in various modern x-ray spectroscopies is proposed. Specifically, new coupled cluster methods will be developed that allow the theoretical determination of such data with unprecedented accuracy. This will be accomplished by combining the recent developments in general coupled cluster methods with that damped response theory that allows for simulation of finite life-times.
