Project description
Internet of Services, Software & virtualisation
SocIoS will pave the way for building qualitative, functional and usable business applications exploiting the User Created Content (UCC) and the Social Graph of users in Social Networks
In SocIoS we intend to use Social Networks as a vehicle towards the implementation of the Internet of Services concept. Social Networks have the potential to be the ideal future service marketplace because they concentrate four basic characteristics: mass participation of users, overabundance of material to be commercially exploited (i.e. content and social graphs), platforms based on web service technologies and the existence of tools to allow application development. In such an environment we expect that participants with variable levels of computer literacy will find incentives in providing services especially through easy-to-use front ends. SocIoS will seek to provide these front ends to the existing Social Networking users as well as organizations who wish to take advantage of the platform. SocIoS plans to offer a single point of interaction with the various Social Networking APIs through the combination of a useful and powerful API and a cross-platform service infrastructure allowing the developer to integrate services from different Social Network platforms and then similarly deploy and manage the resulting workflows on any web site or Social Network. The API and the service infrastructure will comprise the SocIoS framework that will be enhanced so as to be able to handle the business aspects of application development through the establishment of an SLA-aware architecture. Furthermore, SocIoS focuses on supporting the incorporation of third party services in the workflow so as to extend the supported functionalities and set the ground for further uptake towards the Future Internet. Emphasis will be put in the management of vast volumes of content inhabiting in Social Networks as well as in the social graphs. Both constitute valuable assets that are expected to be exploited in such applications. The developed tools technologies will be evaluated against two pilot scenarios about news creation and customization, and TV commercial production in Social Networks.
