Objective
The proposed Action will provide the necessary support to the Chair and Vice-Chairs of the European Research Council Scientific Council (ERC ScC) to achieve key milestones and deliverables of the ScC, which are required in the fifth year of implementation of the Ideas specific programme.
Under the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7) and the Ideas specific programme, the Commission has established the European Research Council providing a competitive funding mechanism for investigator-driven frontier research on European level. One of the key structural components of the ERC is the Scientific Council consisting of 22 researchers at the highest level, representative of a large range of disciplines and institutional backgrounds and acting independently. The ERC ScC establishes and oversees the ERC's scientific management and the implementation of the Work Programme, including the peer review and the selection of peer reviewers.
The potential impact of the project will be to ensure an efficient and well-managed operation of the ERC ScC. By providing high-level local support for the EcC Chair and Vice-Chairs who are based at their respective host institutions, the project will complement the activities of and allow efficient interfacing with the ERCEA. The proposed support is required as the ScC Chair’s duties amount to a full-time commitment and the corresponding duties of the Vice-Chairs demand a considerable part of their time. Their activities are diverse and intensive, ranging from preparing chairing, and following-up on the ScC and Board meetings, interfacing between the ScC and the ERCEA, liaising with the European institutions, and representing ERC in the media and at national, European and international meetings. Overall, the project is expected to contribute significantly to the implementation of the Ideas specific programme.
