Resilience, Safety, and Security of ATM highly automated systems in case of High Impact Low Probability (HILP) events

Project description

Highly automated ATM system resilience against HILP events

Air traffic management (ATM) is critical to the continued operation of the aviation sector and its infrastructure, enabling smooth and consistent operations. ATM is responsible for the safe and secure transport of goods and people. High-impact, low-probability (HILP) events are scenarios that, although unlikely to occur, may be life threatening and could cause serious damage to infrastructure. The EU-funded ATM-RARE project will develop an innovative solution to improve the resilience, security and safety of highly automated ATM systems in response to HILP events. To achieve this, it will combine key automation and data based HILP-solutions oriented towards systemic resilience to improve preparedness and reliability.

Objective

The ATM-RARE project will focus on enhancing the resilience, safety, and security of highly automated Air Traffic Management (ATM) solutions when faced with High Impact Low Probability (HILP) events. The project will work to make air traffic control systems more robust and prepared for unexpected, high-impact disruptions, especially as ATM increasingly relies on advanced automation and AI. A key part of this effort will involve providing anonymised data related to HILP events to improve understanding and preparedness.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
