The Researchers' Night 2007 in Norway

Objective

“Researchers’ Night 2007 in Norway” (RN) is planned as a nation-wide promotion effort in line with the objectives of the EU FP7 “People” Work Programme and the call FP7-PEOPLE 2007-5-1-1-NIGHT, organised as add-on to the “Forskningsdagene” Science Week, 21-300907 comprising 1000 events by 200 local organisers all over Norway, coordinated by the Research Council of Norway (RCN). This coordinated proposal from Norway includes 14 proposed local events selected after national competition and substantial co-financing. The project aims to bring the public at large (kids, teenagers, adults, parents, teachers, entrepreneurs, politicians - and media - in close contact and dialogue with researchers under informal, pleasant, enjoyable, attractive and innovative circumstances. We will promote the contribution of research and researchers to the society at large, bring the researchers closer to the large public, involve researchers who have benefited from EU support, seek to “de-mystify” research, demonstrate the fascination of research, show researchers’ passion for research and allow direct involvement of the public with the researchers in ”hands-on” experiments, science cafés, science quiz, ”real science” etc. A drawing competition “draw a researcher” will be organised in line with the call and the previous success by the RCN “Nysgjerrig-Per” drawing competition for pupils web-published in “Nature”. An EC stand will be prepared according to the call. Industrial partners are engaged in several of the subcontracted events. All local and national initiatives will be demanded to be widely announced in the media. The RCN will prepare and disseminate national information material, including newspaper inlets in nation-wide newspapers (325.000 copies), advertisements, brochures, emails, and web-site information on www.rcn.no www.forskning.no www.forskningsdagene.no , www.nysgjerriper.no and www.eracareers.no. An evaluation of the project will be carried out at end of project.
