Olsztyn Science Days Researchers Night 2008

Objective

The Researchers Night 2008 is planned to be held in Olsztyn the capital of Warmia and Mazury Region on 26th September 2008, as a closing event of the 6th Olsztyn Days of Science. In 2007, the Olsztyn Days of Science were attended by over 30,000 people. The team of 34 high level representatives of different local institutions will be involved in organisation of that event and lead by experienced Professor from the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, the only one state university in the region. The project's objective is to bring the general public closer to the profile of a scientist and to popularise research, innovation and knowledge based economy. Special attention is paid to young people living in villages, small towns - as the region is rural and less favourite area. In order to attain this objective, apart from demonstrations, study trips, visits to laboratories, exhibitions and other forms of direct participation, broad cooperation with the local mass media and Internet use; we want to prepare some touring exhibitions, competitions and presentations of educational films for different age groups. Communities will have better access to our activities through Internet: by blogs run by scientists and by co-editing of newly created WikiEncyclopaedia of Warmia and Mazury, by astronomical observations via Internet, by special radio and TV programmes. In addition transport to Olsztyn from villages will be provided by free of charge coaches. The countrywide photography competition called “The Researcher’s Work” will be organised. The concert “Polish Flute Music” performed by university professor, WikiEncyclopaedia as well as short documentary film “A Scholar and Research Work - a Profile of a Young Scholar” foreseen for the Night will be recorded and delivered to all schools and local libraries afterwards. The main venue for the events & “European Corner” with info about EU, R&D programmes, educational games and competitions will be in the University Campus
