Objective
The FIRST project aimed to blend local and regional traveller information services from multiple agencies into an interregional service that facilitates door-to-door travels from system to system and municipality to municipality.
It was the main objective of FIRST to study the feasibility of a cross-border travel information services network considering Vienna Region and Bratislava as pilot regions. This travel information services network would enable public transport passengers to plan door-to-door trips crossing the borders of regions and states. Particular emphasis was put on the realisation of a bilingual solution, servicing German and Slovakian speaking customers. Furthermore the extension of FIRST services in the near future, such as providing travel information on mobile devices, was conceptualised.
The long-term goal of FIRST was to expand the Vienna-Bratislava pilot into a travel information network of the Central Europe Region, the so-called "Centrope". The increasing volume of traffic in this economical fast growing region demands measures to promote passenger inter-modality.
