A novel touchless method and eHealth system for automated urine monitoring

Project description

Automated urine analysis at home

A urine test examines the visual, chemical and microscopic characteristics of one’s urine. It is part of a routine examination performed frequently to detect a variety of disorders. Conventional urine tests entail visits to healthcare providers and waiting for results. To overcome these limitations, the EU-funded Medipee project is introducing a touchless method and eHealth system for automated urine monitoring. It consists of a measuring device attached to the outside of the toilet at home with a sensor that automatically measures different parameters of urine flow. The information is sent to eHealth applications, facilitating the fast monitoring of health without the need to visit the doctor for this procedure.

Objective

Medipee is a young and innovative SME who aims to improve life quality of its customers through automated health care and monitoring.

Classical urine tests are tedious and normally mean a visit to a doctor combined with a waiting period for the results. The Medipee project aims to optimize, industrialize and commercialize a unique automated urine testing device which can be used by patients at their homes and eliminates the need to go to the doctor for this procedure. To reach this goal, our team combines years of experience in the field of product development, engineering science, medical engineering and marketing.

In the period from 2019 to 2023, we expect to grow in terms of internationalization with+80% larger commercial network, to enter new markets. We also envisage a 60% increase in investment in R&D and generation of new IP to extend the product life-cycle. In terms of business volume, we aim at increased revenue (NPV=€5.0 million, ROI=0.26) from sales generated by Medipee and the creation of 9 new permanent job positions.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
