La protection des salmonidés
[RESULT IN BRIEF] La protection des salmonidés

[RESULT IN BRIEF] Protegiendo los salmónidos

Protecting the salmonids
[RESULT IN BRIEF] Protecting the salmonids
Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD) is the most commonly found disease in farmed stocks of salmonids leading to serious economic loss in aquacultures. Until recently, effective vaccines against BKD were not available and current immunisation methods were found incapable of providing strong protection against the disease. Nevertheless, this EC funded project developed two new genetically-engineered vaccines that are capable of controlling BKD when introduced to salmonids by injection.

[RESULT IN BRIEF] Der Schutz der Salmoniden

Start date: 1992-01-01, End date: 1996-01-01
The aim of this project is fuel saving in Portuguese trawlers (and optimization of energy use on board) with round trips less than 8 days and fishing with bottom trawls.

[REPORT SUMMARY] Fuel saving for trawlers
The purpose of the research work was to identify the fuel saving potential for the Portuguese coastal trawl fleet resulting both from changes in the vessel operating conditions and improvements of the fishing gear performance. The results evidence the good performance of the ...

Pout fishing was identified as the industrial fishing with the greatest bycatch problems with whiting and herring each providing 5% to 10% of total catch weights in recent years and haddock 1%. 3 different devices were tested for reducing these bycatches. A horizontal separato...

Start date: 1990-02-01, End date: 1993-02-01
The prime aim of the research is to develop a species selective trawl for industrial fishing where the industrial species are contained in the main small mesh codend whereas protected species are diverted to a second codend which can be made in large mesh to enable the escape ...
